Getting visitors visa to Russia?

August 5th, 2008 Ed. Posted in Visiting Russia/ex-USSR No Comments »

After going over the visa restrictions and impositions in Russia, I decided to get a
visitors visa this time, which will be valid September through November, for
two visits. However, I still have not received a straight answer as to
whether or not the “time in, time out” rules apply, as with the business
visa. I want to know if this visa will preclude getting another visa for New
Year, or if I must be out of the country for an equal or longer time before
reentry.

Also, in times past, a guest visa stipulated that one must be accompanied by
their host everywhere, especially if away from their home city, but it was
not enforced. Now, I wonder if the old rules apply, and if they will be
enforced. I would prefer not to learn the hard way. If anyone has fresh
knowledge, I would appreciate reading it…

It is really sad that we are the political fodder, bearing the consequences
of international politicking, and that we are paying for the abuses of a few
inconsiderate and disrespectful “bad visitors” … And here I was, hoping
Russia would relax visa requirements, as did Ukraine… silly me.
